1. Open Photoshop and create a new document

  2. Select the shape tool and set your options


  3. While 'Shape 1' layer is still active, press  + Option + T to duplicate the path and transform it.


  4. While holding OPTION+SHIFT, drag any of the four corner handles towards the center


  5. Press RETURN to accept the transformation

  6. In the Options Bar and select the 'Subtract from area' to knock a hole into the original:


  7. Select the 'Path Selection Tool (A)' from the Toolbar and drag a box around entire shape to select both sides of the path:


  8. Press  + Option + T to duplicate the path


  9. While holding OPTION+SHIFT, drag any of the four corner handles towards the center


  10. Press RETURN to accept the transformation

  11. The 'Path Selection Tool (A)' should still be selected. Drag a box around entire shape to select all sides of the path.


  12. Press  + Option + T to duplicate the path


  13. While holding OPTION+SHIFT, drag any of the four corner handles towards the center, but this time just a little bit:


  14. Let go of the OPTION and SHIFT keys and move the mouse until you see the rotate symbol. Then rotate a little bit


  15. Press RETURN to accept the transformation

  16. Press the  + OPTION + SHIFT + T multiple times and watch the last transformation repeat Itself. The below shape is the final result:


  17. Press RETURN to accept the transformation

  18. Drag the layer over the new layer icon to make a copy. Turn the bottom layer off (Click on the eye)

  19. CTRL+Click in the space to the right of the letters in the layer and select Rasterize

  20. Select the Move tool (V) and drag the shape to where you want it. OPTION+click on the shape to create a duplicate. Press +U to change the color.

  21. Experiment with the blending modes

  22. Add more layers, merge others (+E)

Option 1
  1. Click on the Move tool(V) and make duplicates of your shape by pressing OPTION and dragging.


  2. RIGHT+Click or CTRL+click on each shape layer (to the right of the word shape) in the layer palette and rasterize layer
            

  3. Click on the top layer and press +E to merge the top layer with the layer below. Continue until the shapes and colors are on one layer.
         

  4. Fill the background layer


  5. Duplicate the shape layer by pressing +J

  6. Play with the opacity and move the layer slightly


  7. Colorize a layer by selecteing it and pressing +u. Click colorize and adjust sliders



Option 2-–more colors
  1. Click on the Move tool(V) and make duplicates of your shape by pressing OPTION and dragging.


  2. RIGHT+Click or CTRL+click on each shape layer (to the right of the word shape) in the layer palette and rasterize layer
            

  3. Create layers underneath the shape layers (Press  while clicking on the New Layer Icon). Then use a paint brush to paint in areas. You can use the eraser as well



  4. Click on the top layer and press +E to merge the top layer with the layer below. Continue until the shapes and colors are on one layer.


  5. You can duplicate the layer by pressing +J

  6. You can colorize the layer by pressing +U



Option 3
  1. RIGHT+Click or CTRL+click on each shape layer (to the right of the word shape) in the layer palette and rasterize layer


  2. Use the bucket tool to fill in the shape


  3. For tiny areas, create a layer underneath the shape layer (Press  while clicking on the New Layer Icon). Then use a paint brush to paint in areas. You can use the eraser as well



  4. If you created new layers, click on the top layer and press +E to merge the top layer with the layer below.

  5. Use your colored custom shape to make a background by using the move tool(V) and then OPTION, click and drag on the shape to make duplicates.


  6. Experiment with colorize. Select the layer. Pressing +U. Adjust sliders


  7. Experiment with adding a painted layer underneath the shapes


  8. Experiment with making duplicates of the shape layer and adjusting blends.
